Before this, the two worked together in marketing and product development at Burton. They felt the need to start Rome because they began to feel that other companies were putting out too many mediocre products that only sold because they were used by an Olympic snowboarder and marketed heavily. Reid and Maravetz didn’t start just a snowboard company, but a design syndicate (Rome Snowboards Design Syndicate). That means that if you think the products they put out are lame, and you tell them that, they’ll try to fix it. This involvement has made Rome SDS one of today’s most legit brands, that ties into the "cultural foundation" of snowboarding. They’ve won team challenges, video awards, major contests and, most important, the hearts of snowboarders all around the world.
