Polo shirts
Polo shirts are sportive, yet dressy shirts that are suitable for many occasions. The polo shirt as we know it today, was invented in 1926 by professional tennis player René Lacoste, because the existing tennis clothing at the time wasn’t breathable and didn’t give players full freedom of movement. He designed a short-sleeved, loosely-knit cotton shirt, with a flat collar and a buttoned placket. The collar could also be turned up to block the sun from the neck. All these characteristics make the shirt very suitable for skateboarding on a hot day too. Besides that, a polo shirt is slightly more dressy than a T-Shirt, which makes the shirt ideal to wear in many non-athletic contexts. Originally, polo shirts used to be white or plain coloured, and the garment had a bit of a dull image, but nowadays, the polo shirt is a standard item and virtually every clothing company produces its own version of the shirt. Most skateboard, snowboard and streetwear brands make their own interpretations of the shirt, with cool patterns, fabrics and original details.
